Clara Soyoun Kim came to the USA 7 years ago to study painting. One of her passions is nature and in particular the Sycamore tree. In her early days she would not have the skills to paint very realistically, so she used design and her heart to paint her beloved trees. Over time she developed her skills, but the audience seemed to respond better to her earlier paintings. Why, she wondered?
After a reflection of her work Clara realized that her skills had much improved, but her work was missing a soul.
Now, after 7 years, Clara feels the first part of her journey is complete: she is able to speak from the heart while using her artistic skills to the fullest. The result is beautiful new expressive artwork that tells Clara’s passionate story about the Sycamore trees and reflects Clara’s best work.
About the artist
Clara Soyoun Kim is a painter living and working in Philadelphia. For her entire life, she has had two key passions: art and nature. She majored in landscape architecture in college in Korea. However, it didn’t satisfy her expressive yearning, so she came to America to study painting. Kim earned her BFA at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. As a member of Philadelphia Art Connection, she has had a group show every year. She is also a member of the Plastic Club, the Sketch Club and the Manayunk Roxborough Art Center and takes part in many shows.
