“Spring 2020 at PennyPack Trust”

Artist Statement

I have now been painting the Pennypack Trust area for a number of years, but never in an intense and continuous interaction as I have done this spring of 2020.

When this virus crisis started in early Spring, I found myself finding refuge from all the panic and fear in these empty fields.

These daily paintings gave me the sanity and peace I was looking for. I had never regularly or continuously painted the same area; but because I did, I was able to see Mother Nature's captivating changes. I saw the empty, scarred winter fields become carpets of luscious green grass. I saw the trees with all their branches rip into the sky and slowly blossom with leaves. Some days were sunny and pleasant, while others I could feel the wind trying to uproot my easel and canvas. I recall a specific time getting caught in the rain, and feeling that I had never seen my palette in that state before. Mixing oil paints in water was very unusual; but even soaking wet, I saw it through to the end.

Often, I would be painting off paths and met many people who were out walking or exercising trying to find the same sanity I was seeking. Some have become friends, while others have become collectors.

I hope you enjoy this collection of paintings from the moments of my life while going through the COVID-19 crisis.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these pieces, I want you to know that they come with a frame which I make from salvaged wood. I route the shape of the frames and each are an individual piece in their own right.

Thank you for spending some of your time with my work.
